Microsoft has unveiled its ugly sweater for this year’s holiday season, and it’s a real treat for Windows XP fans.
There are many people who consider Windows XP as one of the best versions of Windows, given its enduring popularity. Consequently, the sweater has seen high demand.
Windows XP vs. Windows 11 💻 which one will reign supreme? Tune in now to find out and grab this year’s #WindowsUglySweater November 28, 2023
The sweater, made of 55% cotton and 45% acrylic, features a stylized version of the Bliss wallpaper from Windows XP and is labeled as ‘Merry Blissmas’ in the product listing.
The design showcases the iconic fluffy clouds in a blue sky, a green landscape, and an oversized mouse cursor to make a bold statement.
It’s available for purchase via the Xbox Gear Shop for $70 (£56 in the UK, and around AU$105).
The sweater is available for international shipping, but unfortunately, the most common sizes are already sold out. Only the 2XL and 3XL sizes are still in stock. Customers can request a notification for the out-of-stock sizes, and Microsoft will update them if more inventory becomes available.
Microsoft advises: “Machine wash cold, tumble dry low, and never take off.”
A portion of the proceeds goes to charity, specifically The Nature Conservancy, which works to protect the environment and combat climate change.
Analysis: Do sweat it
Microsoft’s holiday sweaters have become quite popular. Previous designs included Clippy and a Windows 95 sweater. In 2019, there was a Windows XP sweater, and Microsoft reissued it in 2020. The current version is more subtle, except for the oversized mouse pointer.
One criticism is that Microsoft should produce more of these garments, given their popularity. The limited availability of sizes could be disappointing for those eager to get a festive sweater.
We’re still waiting for the BSoD, frankly (that’s the ‘Blue Sweater of Death’).
