Currently, the Google Pixel 8 Pro boasts one of the brightest smartphone screens globally, with its peak brightness of 2,400 nits surpassing even the iPhone 15 Pro Max (2,000 nits) and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (1,750 nits). However, the upcoming OnePlus 12 is expected to surpass those numbers.
Why such a bright screen? While it improves clarity in direct sunlight, a brightness this high may not have much practical use. Additionally, achieving this peak brightness may be limited to a small area of the screen and only momentarily, though if any part of the OnePlus 12’s display can reach 4,500 nits, it’s likely the entire display will outshine rival phone screens.
Another leaker Digital Chat Station, posting on Weibo (via GSMArena), suggests that the maximum brightness the screen can reach as a whole is 1,722 nits. While we’re relying on a translated Chinese post, this is still notably bright and a more realistic figure.
They additionally claim that the OnePlus 12 features a 6.82-inch 1440 x 3168 display with 510 pixels per inch and a 120Hz refresh rate, and have even shared leaked hands-on images of the phone, including screen settings displaying the aforementioned resolution. These images also reveal a punch-hole camera and a curved-edge screen.

As for other specs, OnePlus has already revealed the OnePlus 12’s camera configuration, and more details are expected on December 5 when the phone launches in China.
A global launch is likely to take place in 2024, with leaker Max Jambor claiming it will occur on January 23. This event will likely unveil global pricing, making the OnePlus 12 available for purchase shortly after, unless one prefers to wait for other 2024 top phones such as the anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24, also expected early in the year.
